Art Educatiom

TEACHER PHILOSOPHY

I have a deep passion for art, and I find joy in sharing that passion with others. It is particularly important to me because where I come from, Art Education is not given the importance it deserves. The schools I attended lacked skillful art teachers, art rooms, and materials, which resulted in a poor quality of art education. To witness my teacher's struggle throughout my education, the thought of becoming a teacher was not particularly appealing. However, I understand their passion and hope today. I strongly believe that every child deserves access to a high-quality education, including art education.

My main goal as an art teacher is to deliver quality art education to my students to the best of my ability. I aim to teach with love, patience, and at a pace that is comfortable for each student. In my classes, I aim to demonstrate that everyone is capable of having fun with art and developing their skills. By creating an art education that focuses on multimedia, including traditional and digital art, discussions, critiques, and incorporating personal interests, I aim to show students that art is for everyone.

To me, art is an essential tool for students to understand themselves and others. Art allows them to explore their identity, develop their creativity, and connect with their community, culture, and history. Ultimately, I believe art can create a happy and healthy learning environment.

What I value most as an art teacher is the experience that my students will carry with them throughout their lives. I want to ensure that the art education I provide is more than just making art for art's sake. I want my students to be able to take what they learn in my classes and apply it to other areas of their lives to achieve success as adults. To achieve this, I dedicate time in class to talk about art and use it as a means to instigate deep conversations. I believe that by starting these conversations from early grades, I can help students understand the importance of understanding digital media, as it is becoming an increasingly important skill in our imagery-dependent society.

FALL LEAF PROJECT

Elements of Art - Lines & Shapes

Watercolor project

1st Grade

As the fall season sets in, students are experiencing the magic of the changing colors of the leaves. In this unit, students are exploring the elements of art such as lines, shapes, repetition, and patterns, they will observe different types of leaves and identify the various lines and shapes that can be found in them.

To further enhance their learning, this unit incorporates a concept of music. They have been learning about rhythm in music, and exploring the same concept in visual arts by creating patterns with shapes and lines.

The culminating project for this unit is a watercolor painting of fall leaves. The teacher will demonstrate how to create a leaf using lines and shapes. Students will learn how to hold a brush, use the palette, and will discuss warm and cool colors in preparation for their artwork.

This unit provides an opportunity for students to appreciate the beauty of nature while also developing their artistic skills. Students were encouraged to incorporate elements of their interest in their work.

GEOMETRIC HOUSES PROJECT

Elements of Art - Shapes

Bird House project

Kindergarten

The students have been actively engaged in learning about shapes and their characteristics. They have been exploring the identification of shapes in objects and pictures, along with practicing counting corners and sides, and how to create. They have practiced drawing shapes, using Play-Doh to create 3D forms, using stencils, and many other small art activities to enhance their learning. Additionally, they have been utilizing various materials to support their fine motor skills, such as ripping paper, using scissors, and gluing using a tiny brush.

As the culminating project, the students are tasked with creating a 2D birdhouse made of construction paper, crayons, texture plates, and glue. This exciting project is part of a school-wide initiative to decorate the entrance of the school. Using their newly acquired knowledge of shapes, the students are encouraged to exercise their creativity by designing their own unique birdhouse that will be displayed along a tree.
